Thanks guys! I only need one with two channels. I liked the DJM400 because it is basic, looks good quality (haven't tried it yet) and has effects I am looking for. The Rane is a little more expensive but I just loved the layout, although it doesn't have a basic effects system.

I am looking out for the other ones you guys mentioned since so far the only one that has really come up to what I'm looking for is the DJM400 but it won't record so that's another MAJOR issue, if this can be solved I will definitely get it.

You mean the annoying lack of record outputs?

Personally I would ignore the effects and look at the 400 as a mixer alone. As far as that goes, it's pretty weak. Why not look at getting a basic but really well built mixer, and adding and EFX unit on later?

Effects are really, really overrated. And I own an EFX-1000!

Well, someone commented early on the thread that it was impossible to record your own sets using DJM400, which would be a huge problem with me and just for that I wouldn't buy the DJM400. I know effects are overrated and all, but this is for my own pleasure and I happen to like to play around with tracks so I want something that will allow me to take advantage of this, I don't want to overly do it and get the best of the best, I am just looking for a well built mixer with a good built-in efx system. DJM400 looks like it could offer this but no recording input so that's off the list. However, Ryan, if you can find me a well built mixer and a good efx unit all for 650-700 bucks I'll get it!

If you route the 400 into your computer's line in, you can record just fine with something free like Audacity.

So the mixer does have a recording output? I usually just plug into my mic or headphones to record my sets.

The DJM400 does not have a REC OUT, but it does have two MASTER OUTS. You can use one master out for your amp and one for recording. You just wont be able to lower or raise the volume on your master out because it will also lower it on your recording. Plus, you'll also have to constantly keep watching your levels so you won't peak.
