And, as you can see, it's not hard to find a country with just 50% of believers. I've got no data on the US, though, but there education alone can't be the sole responsible for killing religion (in case it is being killed).

And the poll was done in the U.S., where polls of the general population typically show 85-95% belief.

Even stronger than the negative correlation with education level, though, is the negative correlation that religiosity has with IQ. Surveys of very high IQ groups regularly reveal low religiosity, e.g. this one.
Whatever IQ might measure, people who have a lot of it tend to be less religious.
