Well, *I* don't think it's very accurate and helpful info... but whatever..
I mean, it gives Aphex Twin as an example of Trance... what's up with that or did he really make trance at one point?
"Jungle is quite chaotic and has a breakbeat of 160BPM with the bassdrum on half speed."
That's not the best description of Jungle either... It's not a bass drum that's at half speed... It's a SNARE drum every second beat (usually, but not always)... big difference... plus the BPM is usually 170 to 180 bpm
I also get the impression that that list is quite old and out of date, cuz I don't recognize a lot of the recommended artists.
and Dumonde Trancer... Did you have to quote the *whole* list?

I think it was worthwhile, if you don't want to read, you don't have to but it does provides some basic info. All speedracer_mec wanted to do was help the dude who asked the question. You don't like it, don't read it.
FinnHawk does have a point though...
Some of the descriptions are highly inaccurate. If that dude (who wrote this originally) described Acid House, why didn't he bother to describe Acid Techno and Acid Trance as well which are much BIGGER acid subgenres. Acid House is practically dead now - acid techno has changed a bit.. but is still alive... the same with acid trance
And TB 303 - a drum-machine??? WTF?? absolute bullshit! Transistor Bass is a bass-line... not a drum-machine and never was one
now, how accurate do u think that crap is??

I also agree with FinnHawk, WTF is Sexcore...????? how is it relevant to what this thread was about.. ? And i totally agree that Aphex Twin has absolutely nothing to do with Trance, and i wouldnt put Ravers' Nature in that category either. However, some of that stuff was relevant...
Techno is such a bruised and battered term anyway,it has taken on so many meanings in the past and the ignorant american population at large calls anything with a steady beat and sequences techno. For a modern interpretation, check out the lineups for Senesation WHITE and Sensation BLACK this year, with white=trance and black="techno" That's a pretty good delineation.

I never said that stuff was completely accurate but it does give a bit of info.......for people to start looking into a certain genre and then learning and making their decision. I do agree, not all the info is great and it is highly opinated.....but it does give some background to the highly complicated world of electronic music. If you don't agree with it.....write your own definition and post it and see what people think.

They forgot freestyle, which was also derived from disco...
So in my opinion disco split into house, hi-nrg, & freestyle. With freestyle & house being the true genres directly linked to American disco, both culturally & musically. European disco followed & freestyle + house = eurodance, well, sped up that is. Euro is derived from Latin Hip-House...
So, what would you guys say the roots of trance are?

I dont know anything about hard house, I just know a little about synthpop, freestyle, italodisco. eurodance, trance & psytrance. I'm also a tad familiar with classic new age.

Hardhouse has varying definitions, it depends on who you ask. On one hand, people associate HH with really boring nothingbutbassanddrums kind of music, the stuff that Steve Lawler spins, and Carl Cox, too. On the other hand, hardhouse is also defined as really high energy House, like Yomanda, and you can hear that stuff by the likes of Fergie and Lisa Lashes.. i personally prefer this latter definition b/c i like that kind of music so much better.
