The reason "the shuffle" has such a bad rep is because 90% of the people who do it...can't. Some people look like they are having upright epileptic fits (though dancing is about doing your own thing and having fun, not looking good)
The first guy in the video posted in that news article was really good I think...a perfect example of how to do the shuffle, very clean, fluid sliding action and tight hand actions. Good except for the glowsticks.

At deadmau5 @ Kink in Sydney recently, I was told I was an "aggressive" dancer - whilst doing my mild rendition of the shuffle.
Now let me just say, EVERYONE there was drinking as if it was 1999, and were there to pick up and be seen! This familar seen was noticed at various clubs around Sydney - and hence its a shithole for electronic music - great for pickin up ur random british or german girl, but dancing - forget it.
I hope they ban the shuffle in sydney, and DJs should pick up on what the crowd in front of them is actually doing, and boycot gigin' there
