Yeah, that's exactly how I was during my childhood - I fell off roofs, climbed windows and I had know idea about what death was.

She lives in a farm, so there's zero violence. I find it hard to blame the TV also, because she watches Lazy Town all day long. My girlfriend thinks it's her niece's mother that inflicted this fear on her...

Clever girl. I thought I was immortal until at least the age of 19.

I'd say it's common amongst children. Not that most kids are aware of it that early, it's just that some children are just that way - fearful of the dark, of death, of things that grown-ups can't really explain to them, or in many rural situations simply cannot explain.

Interestingly enough, I'd say children are often more resilient in examplary cases of these sorts of fears than adults are. and their existential reasoning doesn't even tend to be all that different. Really, do adults know more about what happens after death than children do? They may think that they do, they may have "faith" that they do, but adults are often not much more than a child with an overwhelming number of lies they apply to "define" themselves. which would you say is more traumatic - to discover a truth or to uncover a lie?

Very interesting, usually children do not grasp the fact of death until about 5 or so...and even then, they refer to it as "sleeping or in heaven"
to me that does sound like external input for a fear of death,
I mean, how could she know the difference of existing as opposed to not, at such young age??
