I wouldn't say "rehashed formula". It's just his own style... and usually it's pretty good. |
I don't really hear the difference between his work, and the work of say... Sunny LAX (I could go through a large amount of the Anjuna artists and say the same thing). It's really all based on the same sounds/organization. I don't hear any real 'unique style' behind any of it.

i like Daniel Kandi's music, like most of his productions and remixes
i would say that it is very "euro" trance, a bit cheesy, but nonetheless very good
I Found The Way/Make Me Believe was imo, a very good EP and I was quite shocked at the low rating mixmag gave me! he has talent which he frequently shows us all
look forward to seeing more from him |
I actually resent the word "euro" being used as a prefix to designate more commercial-friendly "trance" music, simply because all the good quality trance comes overwhelmingly from Europe anyway.
As for calling his productions cheesy, I'd like to know what you're basing that on? Are you calling it cheesy on the fact that he creates memorable melodies, or are you saying that his melodies are surrounded by over-simplified elements which causes a lack of depth, as in being extremely commercial?
Personally, I consider most of the electro/tech-trance stuff coming out recently cheesier than even something like cascada...I mean, at least they made some tunes with a "melody" you can recognize for crying out loud, despite being hellishly annoying.

i base cheesy on the general formulaic plucked melodies he tends to use. for example "Make Me Believe" is undeniably imo a very 'commercial' production.

im afraid there is no defending cascada imo, all tht shit is killing dance music. a song doesn't need a particularly strong melody either, depending on your point of view. i would agree that a lot of the electro stuff coming out can get very cheesy with all the whistles and bleeps. as for tech-trance, i dont really understand how it is cheesy?
