This is true. I took some classes in that, er, "faculty" a while back, mainly for fun since I have a real degree. They have some great faculty members there, very knowledgeable and much better communicators than most of my university faculty was.

But that should really be no surprise, since their culinary school actually has a strong reputation. For everything else, I've not heard anything to suggest that they're better than, say, Seneca or Humber.

If you're going into something along the line of Fine Arts, at the very least try for York...

Because they'll give you an actual degree?

Yeah, it's a York degree, but at least it's accredited.

depending on what "art" career you are going to go into, you do not necessarily need to have a degree.

hmmm...either i must be a complete retard then for getting 1/3 of my degrees there (best out of all of my university degrees, if i may add so) and getting offered a teaching job @ GB immediately after completion thereof - OR i may be teaching complete retards.

i have had nothing but the best feedback and reactions from employers and employment agents across the country when conducting informational interviews and mentioning GB. GB has, in fact, a very good reputation nation-wide.

ehm...and did i mention that I LOVE my job, my students - who are very bright for that matter - and boss at GB! best i've EVER had!!

conclusion: you must be a retard then

Of course you don't need one. You don't even need a high school diploma, for any career, if you can find some other way to prove that you're smart enough.

You're just going to have a harder time with a diploma when an equivalent degree program exists. Whether that's fair or unfair, right or wrong, I don't really know or care, it's still the truth.

When you're sorting through a pile of 50 resumes, the first thing you look for is proof that somebody has gone through a similar selection process in the past. Doesn't have to be a degree, could be some sort of award or being on some elite team, whatever, but generally a diploma doesn't cut it.

for fine arts?

now call me naive, but everyone I've every known who works in any art related feild, got their job because of their portfolio. A piece of paper had nothing to do with it. This goes for graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, and a few people in film and television.

fuck, one of my friends does design for huge multinational corporations... I'm talking pepsi, virgin, taco bell, bell among others.. makes great money, and the guy never finished high school.. went to seneca for graphic design and dropped out after 2 semesters. and he's only one of a few.

if your actually talented, the paper means nothing. and if you're shit, the paper still means nothing.

haha ill take the heat for this one
i went to canisius in buffalo..[[which i hated]] whos attendance policy counts more than the academic work. I spent all of last semester in toronto, did all of my work, and basically bombed bc i wasnt there to sit through the lectures.

I took some summer classes, got back up to a 3.0, but that semester makes it hard to transfer haha

Well said. I have the exact same outlook as you do. In those areas, your experience, and what you can do comes before everything else. I want to get that damn piece of paper fast, and with very little damage to my wallet.

I was told I got into OCAD, but then the told me my marks weren't high enough and they gave me the boot, oh, and kept my $300. Probably for the best anyway, their program was too expensive, and I don't want to be paying that off.

That's what I wanna hear! Words like that always drive me strong past all my uncles and aunts telling me I need an "profession/trade" and be jailed to 9-5 for the rest of your life. If you're going to be working most of your day, at least work in something you're interested in or have a flair for!
