To a point it is. There are objective lines of definition to classify genres.

well what if you're color blind?

Color blind people can distinguish between different shades of colors even though they can't identify the colors to which their gray scale interpretations correspond.

(Assuming they have monochromacy)

Not just gray ... different wavelengths of light on grayscale ... but whatever.

By that logic there should be no attempt made to distinguish any different genre of music from another. It should all just be music.
