Monster disappointment. Got off the freeway at 8:45, and by the time we parked and got in it was 11:00! Had to walk around kids sitting in the middle of every major path. Waited over 20 minutes just to get an incredibly warm water (keep in mind it was VIP), and people were just pushy, rude, and cutting us off. HORRIBLE vibe. WAY to many folks not handling thier ecstasy well. Furthermore, you'd think that with that many people rolling, they'd be a little more courteous. And when I say the people were rude, I really dont mean one or two kids that caused trouble, but a good 70% of the crowd that was just pushy and inconsiderate. Do I mind if you give a lightshow to your friends? Absolutely not. But when your friends are all layed out across one of the only major paths and tons of folks are trying to get through... c'mon! And then I'm the bad guy when I trip over you? The staff looked like this was the first event they had ever handled at this venue, and were VERY rude to the clientele.
The VIP section in general was a joke. Nowhere to sit down really, and just as crowded and pushy as GA. The lines for drinks were just atrocious, and there were way too many girls hopping in line because they think I'm impressed that thier 17 year old ass is hanging out of that miniscule shred of fabric they call shorts. And boy I feel sorry for the folks that got the cabanas! Basically all that $1000 got you was a seat; a seat in a small plasic tent that looked even hotter than the rest of the venue, and gave you a stunning view of... the line for the bar.
As far as the music goes, I'm sure it was great... Unfortuantely, all I heard of it was somewhere below the 80hz range. AWFUL, awful sound. It was a little better out by the GA area, but the sound in VIP was unintelligible. Didn't hear one track I recognized, because I'm not able to pick out songs by bass thump alone. Not even a small monitor pointed in our direction. Most of the night felt like listening to a drum machine. In no way the artists fault.
The last issue was the heat, but thats understandable considering the amount of folks present. (When the sweltering heat is the LEAST of my complaints, you know it was bad!)
Overall, I'm glad I tried it once just to say I did; but I really should have listened to all the warnings in the "official who's NOT going to..." thread, and I'm inclined to agree with the folks that said "I wouldn't go if I had free tickets." Rude people, horrible sound, and a joke of a VIP section. It's really a shame that Sasha, Diggers, and Ferry are spinning here on New Years, because you couldn't get me back at that venue if Jesus Christ himself were spinning a 12 hour set. Only Giant events for me as far as large shows go...
Sorry if mine seems like such a downer. I'm sure it was fun for other folks, but it just was not my speed. Maybe I'm just gettin old. |
This is pretty much the reason I'll never go again. I came all the way from T.O for it last year and really didn't enjoy it because of all this BS. Music could have been a lot better too. Knew this year would be no different. They gotta move it out of the Sports Arena, it's too big for that place now. It's a shit venue with really rude staff.

This was my first "big rave" in california (moved here a year ago from Sweden). When I compare the quality of this event with other parties I've been to (like sensation, mysteryland, trance energy, innercity) it makes me wanna cry.
When we arrived at around 8pm we were surrounded by 16 yr olds, I think I saw a girl who was around 12, I can't believe parents let their children attend this kind of party.
The information was poor (show me a fuckin map), decoration cheap, the light was lame (gimme some lasers). Getting inside took forever even when we arrived early, I feel sorry for all those who came later. The organizers weren't even outside to help tell people where to go and form efficient lines to get in.
Only thing I liked was my fellow Swedish DJ's Axwell & Angello, AVB and Jules.
I know the scene in California isn't to impressive but I had no idea it consisted of kids who can't get into nightclubs and use this place as a excuse to take drugs.
This was my first and last Monster Massive, I only hope I can some other place to go to for good music.

Are you visiting or do you live here? If you are going to be around a while I will show you some real events with no kids and amazing music all night.
