Here's a few items of interest from the 9/11 Commission Report on our "friends" of Saudi Arabia:
| quote: | The Saudis generally resisted cooperating more broadly against al Qaeda financing, although the U.S. government did not make this issue a priority in its bilateral relations with the Saudis or provide the Saudis with actionable intelligence about al Qaeda fundraising in the Kingdom. Other issues, such as Iraq, the Middle East peace process, economic arrangements, the oil supply, and cutting off Saudi support for the Taliban, took primacy on the U.S.-Saudi agenda

And let's see, who was it that paid bin Laden about 200 million pounds in 1998 so he wouldn't attack targets in Saudi Arabia? Oh that's right, the fucking Saudi royals, of course:
http://www.muslimnews.co.uk/news/pr...hp?article=3286
And who led that delegation in giving that money to bin Laden? None other than intelligence chief and Saudi Arabia Ambassador to the U.S., Prince Turki:
| quote: | A further meeting in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in July 1998 led to the deal between Saudi Arabia and the Taliban. Those present included Prince Turki al-Faisal al-Saud, then chief of the Istakhbarat, Taliban leaders, senior officers from Pakistan’s ISI secret service and Bin Laden.
Turki knew Bin Laden well, not just through family connections but because in the early 1980s he had hand-picked the young Saudi to organise Arab volunteers fighting the Russians in Afghanistan.
According to the documents, the agreement stated Bin Laden would not use his forces in Afghanistan to subvert the Saudi government. In return, the Saudis agreed to ensure that requests for the extradition of Al-Qaeda members and demands to close Afghan training camps by third countries were not carried out.
To reinforce the deal, the Saudis agreed to provide oil and financial assistance to both the Taliban and to Pakistan. The documents detail donations totalling "several hundred millions" of dollars. |
And as mentioned previously, these bastards are STILL supporting people to come to Iraq and kill our soldiers:
| quote: | Sheik Saleh Al Luhaidan, seen in video seated to the right of the crown prince, is chief justice of Saudi Arabia's Supreme Judicial Council. His sermons and words carry great significance.
In an audiotape secretly recorded at a government mosque last October and obtained by NBC News, Luhaidan encourages young Saudis to go to Iraq to wage war against Americans.
"If someone knows that he is capable of entering Iraq in order to join the fight, and if his intention is to raise up the word of God, then he is free to do so," says Luhaidan in Arabic on the tape.

And just recently, we have this interesting documentary that stated:
| quote: | (CNN) -- Saudi Arabia could have helped the United States prevent al Qaeda's 2001 attacks on New York and Washington if American officials had consulted Saudi authorities in a "credible" way, the kingdom's former ambassador said in a documentary aired Thursday.
.... Speaking to the Arabic satellite network Al-Arabiya on Thursday, Bandar -- now Abdullah's national security adviser -- said Saudi intelligence was "actively following" most of the September 11, 2001, plotters "with precision."
"If U.S. security authorities had engaged their Saudi counterparts in a serious and credible manner, in my opinion, we would have avoided what happened," he said.

Which taking our Administration's blind ignorance aside prior to 9/11 for a moment, does this not imply somewhat that the Sauds had good prescience of events to come?
But of course our little Bushies and his idiot minions like Arnoldj/LatinLover here hasn't a mere care in the world about the likes of these bastards. Why is that? Why give them a fucking high-five and give glowing stories like the topic of this thread instead of truly examine the actual harm FROM the Saudis instead? For Bush - I think you can say there's a number of factors involved, including a number of conflicts of interests perhaps.
For Arnoldj/LatinLover, who the fuck knows, but with his obvious unsupported remarks and assertions made, I think we all get a pretty good understanding why he thinks the way he does (or sincere lack of thinking altogether).

Here's a "far-left" journalist by the name of Jonah Goldberg who's opinions appear often in that "far-left" magazine and blog called "The National Review" who has some interesting things to say about our "friends":
| quote: | A while back the New Republic zinged National Review for running ads for Ann Coulter's book. I don't want to get into all that, except I think it was certainly fair comment for a magazine like TNR to make. However, I do think it's amusing that TNR runs a big juicy ad for Saudi Arabia in its current issue. Admittedly, there's no indication of corporate endorsement of the Wahhabi State, they don't say "The Editors of the New Republic Bring You Saudi Arabia" or anything like that. But, then again, whether you are a huge fan of Coulter's or an implaccable critic, I think I'm on solid ground when I say, "Sirs, I know Ann Coulter. I've worked with Ann Coulter. And, my friends, Saudi Arabia is no Ann Coulter." I mean the New Republic has time and again — rightly — denounced the Saudis for their anti-Semitism, their exportation of terror, their treatment of women, their undermining of democracy in the region, their duplicitous alliance with the United Sates, their role in fomenting al Qaeda etc. And while I find much to disagree with in Ann's writings from time to time, even her alleged crimes fall far short of Saudi Arabia's.

But of course, they're offering "peace" in the region, so let's continue to be dismissive of these "far-left" thoughts by these "far-left" journalists.
