Oh I'm sorry, I thought it was standard procedure to read the original post before replying.

A buddy of mine is one of Emotive's artist, he let me see that Emotive Artist memo. What it means to me, uplifting Trance doesn't sell anymore. It's not dead, it's just not a big seller anymore. Emotive was a big Trance label, as I understand it. It does seem kind of odd to me for a label to tell artists to try some other styles of music. It seems a desperate move. I guess I should hit up Emotive, I produce progressive trance, progressive house, and electro. I stopped listening to uplifting Trance a while back. Once I discoverd the progressive styles, I never looked back.

I think it's the rock n' roll of EDM, it's here to stay.

Rock and roll is dead.

That's a horrible thing for you label to say. I mean ffs, produce what you feel like producing. No need to force anything.

I agree, I think its wrong to pressure people to produce anything, but it is usful for artists to know what the flavour of the month is. This way they can check out artists who may be of interest. So I think its a good idea for a label to advise its artists what's selling, but not to TELL them to produce something. At any rate, we all know it doesn't work like that anyway.

I don't think any genre is ever completely gone anyway, as a whole, there may be fewer mediocre producers making a certain style, but there will always be outstanding tracks from all genres. For example, at the moment, there is a massive number of really mediocre producers making electro, but soon, they'll all move on to deep house Leaving only the occasional really good electro track, which will stand out due to the fact that it is not surrounded by rubbish.

I would say rock n' roll is hardly dead. I would say that the new rock is pretty popular and the indie scene seems pretty mainstreme to me anyways. Just look at how many hipsters there are. They're everywhere.

The worst thing you can do to an artist is tell them what they should be doing. Artists should be left alone to do their own creative thing. If an artist is in it for the money, they will figure out what is selling and what is not.

I don't see how EDM labels are making any money at all. Even major Pop and rock labels are having a rough time. Obviously Emotive is hurting, and in a desperate move, they are trying to encourage a direction change. It's not like artists are making money at this, most are not. It's just a hobby for most. Hobbiest normally do what they want to do. That's the whole point of having a hobby, you do what YOU want to do, not what someone suggests to you. I think Emotive is going about this is an awkward way.
