At least it's easy to avoid now we know it exists (e.g. upgrade). I have a policy of never giving Internet access to anything that doesn't need it. WinAmp comes into that category. I hate all these sneaky apps connecting you to the net all the damn time, which is why I wouldn't be without a firewall.
Also, "infected" mp3s can easily be "cured", it seems.
I'd like to know how the trojan managed to delete all those files, sounds a bit dubious to me. That ActiveX stuff can be a bitch though. A lot of this grief is caused by smartass developers trying to be too bloody clever. Trying to get apps to do all these smart stuff without considering the consequences. Microsoft are the kings of that.
