As for massives, we'll get there again. Just have to have them sponsored by corporations, or cultural institutions (like the scotia bank nightly art thing) and we'll be set.

Just being a douche

Any massive has to be marketed properly for Toronto....Personally, I think people in Toronto are mostly the "I wanna be seen" crowd which means you have to make it the Party of all Parties. In order for it to work here you are going to have to have not just one but both Armin and Tiesto as the headliners.....anything other then that and the "I wanna be seen" crowd dies off.

Ideally, the list of Major International DJs would have to include:

Armin
Tiesto
Benny B
Lawler

We have tough bylaws here in Toronto to have such massives.

In May of 2001, Ottawa chose not to ban 'raves' 21-year-old Allen Ho died, but has set limits. Toronto unfortunately made things tougher. The end.

the only place where the city makes it tough is on city property and especially with all ages events.

There are still numerous 19+ events that happen on city property. Liberty grand NYE is one that comes to mind. yes liberty group holds the lease, but it's city property. same goes for muzik (though it's not quite as big).

Live nation just did a bacardi event in a warehouse with a capacity of over 2000 people.

People in Toronto are just too reluctant to take the chance because of the costs involved. The city cracking down on raves on city property and all the negative press in 2000 is what popped the bubble... and a lot of people lost a lot of money when that happened. People are just too reluctant to try it now because of the risk.

As far as Montreal goes and them supporting the arena events. We have some events in Toronto that are bigger. the arena events fit between 6-7000 people. we get bigger numbers for labor of love and NYE at the Guv. The docks also does similar numbers for some of their events.

we still have the numbers in toronto.. we just don't have people willing to take the risk on our type of events outside of already existing licenced establishments intended for nightclub/concert events.

haha that stuff is dirt... literally!
I played in the middle of NO WHERE once at a friend's party in Israel.

Beautiful scenery, fuel generator, people = party! But it was such dirrrt... the sound escapes from the speakers so much easier -- you need huge speaks to get an enjoyable sound. Not to mention dancing on dust

Not necessarily bud. If you have a large enough variety of djs at a venue like that you can have whoever you want come, I think the city can draw large crowds like that...just promote like mad, get the best local talent and a variety of music in one or two different areas then you're set. Looking at everything activate mentioned, it's still possible and happens, just at other types of parties...not necessarily EDM, but 'if you build it, they will come.' haha

I'll defend Guv or any other club run by people I know when I think someone doesn't know what they're talking about.

As for mentioning Guv. Nothing was brought up to cause me to defend them. I was using Guv/The Docks as an example to show that Toronto is still capable of bringing out the same kind of numbers.

As for Guv events and arena events in Montreal. I like both. Each of them has diffent aspects that appeal to me. They're differnt events, different cities and different crowds. Apples and oranges.

on a side note, I'm also an employee of Track Entertianment. We do all the arena events in Montreal.
