not at all; but its obviously useful to see a critique of chomsky. especially for those of us that might not appreciate things that he missed or obvious issues of contention.
whilst reading original discourse is great, i also enjoy the battle between 2 (or more) theorists. and really, if we're going to get technical about it, there wouldn't be a single piece of modern work that doesn't include references, so really everyone is really just writing about/with everyone else |
Oh, got it.
In that case, I'd rather read the stuff both from Chomsky and competing theorists, such as Givón, for example, or a book on Generative Grammar in general (taking ideas not just from Chomsky, but from everyone else who contributed to the Generative Enterprise). However, I find it weird to read books such as this one. Maybe I'm missing some of the debate, but wouldn't I learn about it if I read a book about a theory he subscribes to? That's why Konijn's post puzzled me.

ah, apa format = suckeg... anyhow what were your papers about? i turned in one for publication but doubt tthey will get back to me as it was my first attempt and the experiment had very little relevance. |
one article was about college student gambling, no one had examined them by age group, 18, 19, 20, and 21 and up. it was not in a top tier journal, but it works
the other is a book chapter on adolescent gambling.
and i am working on another pub with my thesis data. also have other data that is kinda weak but might work. and just keep waiting, it usually takes like a year for them to get back to you, then you revise, then they wait another 6 - 12 months to publish. it takes forever!
and yes there are 2 types of universities, research institutes and teaching colleges, on concentrates on teaching, the other...research!
