I wanted to drop on and make a post what what's going on with us just now. I read a thread recently on a club forum that I like to use and it was asking the question about DJs, Producers and which of them might have a full time job......
Well I'm gonna answer that one honestly.... Both Yiannis and myself have day jobs, full time days jobs. We're not 19 anymore and college isn't an option lol. We're adults and have lives to lead and more imprtantly familys to look after so if that means holding down a job to support the regular bills then I'm not afraid to admit that I do it.
I've been working since I left school so trying to find a balance between the job and doing music, DJ'ing etc has been generally a learning curve. I live with my girlfriend in our own place and my job has paid for that for 12 years now. I'm very secure and I'd never risk that unless 110% that I can maintain or better my situation. The dance music scene is really strained. Unless your a massive name, with a massive label and gigging every weekend then I think its gonna be hard to maintain the level of income you might once have seen or what you think your gonna get from this form of music.
I'm sure if you asked alot of the DJ circuit that's perhaps under the top level of Tiesto, PVD and Armin, they might just admit that going back to a normal job is looking like an option to them... I've had this chat with people I meet on the road... Its happening all the time. I'm just glad I have the job with a great boss that allows me to travel when I need to and I can still come back and earn a solid crust.
Its a hard game to get into and I'm blown away by the coverage we have had and the luck in getting our material out there with labels like Vandit. Its luck, timing and hardwork that did it. Yes being full time music or DJ'ing would give us a greater part of the day to focus on ideas but we have managed till now and we will keep pushing on.
Just because you haven't seen us on every flyer in the UK doesn't mean we are not out in the studio or playing gigs elsewhere. I've just finished working with Plant in Cyprus this week, then played a cracking beach party in Ayia Napa, I'm about to fly home and I get 6 days at home, 4 of which are at work, 1 gig in Edinburgh over the weekend then I am off to Australia to DJ in Perth and Melbourne..... home for 6 days then its Eden in Ibiza. These are all my holidays from work so that means no actual REAL HOLIDAY with family or friends thats my choice right now.... and I wouldn't change a thing
Hopefully that gives you some insight into what we do and how
Thanks for all the support
