we got atlanta bread and company and panera but those are mainly just restaurants that have a tiny selection of bread.

Honestly, you can think I'm being bastardish all you want, but I've been told by many people that bread is poor in north america compared to europe. In the uk, we have many good brands, kingsmill, warburtons, hovis etc which aren't as sweet as many of the foreign ones, eg bimbo & other brands. However for fresh bakeries, they do lovely ones in Spain and obviously french flour gives brilliant stuff, but they're kinda renowned for it. The simple fact is though that mostly due to the flour & recipes, the breads are much nicer.

Cold cuts are for amateurs.

1/2 lb of freshly cut, still hot, tender and moist smoked meat from Schwartz, panini'd on ciabatta, with mayo, tomato and swiss cheese:

I don't know how many Canadians you know, but that's not true at all, lol.

Or maybe it's because I live in a small town, but there's some great bakeries here...and there's always the delicatessen!

Ya man, we have great bakeries here. I love walking in into the bakery and taking a big waft of fresh baked goods.

fresh still will be better, but my problem is more with the storebought branded ones. they're usually so bland everywhere else but local bakeries are always nice.
