Some sort of production program like Cubase or Fl Studio.

And a MIDI Keyboard of some sorts and some decent monitors and headphones.

Thread-Starter, your probably being serious but some people on here either think you aren't (because it's an assumption that people who are either new or completely oblivious to EDM think..DJs are "making music" when they mix) or are just being jerks, so ignore them. Name calling is the in thing to do on here "flaming" if you will...TA is like a classroom gone wild...adults who never got out of their teenage years. My advice..watch what you say in the MD discussion (your sig will probably get you flamed right away) and really stay out of the COR...kinda scary in there sometimes...some of the discussions that go on....a lot of them are really in their own group where everyone knows each other and likes to tear into each other for fun.

Because there are people in the MD that post regularly that despise what Armin has done and feel he's deluded trance, sold it out to the mainstream, play music that is more "pop" than trance. They view those who like him as DJ Worshipers (even though some just worship other DJs but that's another story). You are more likely to find people into Armin van Buuren and the like on Trance.nu then Tranceaddict. There's also a lot of people who are not really even that into trance, some who don't like it at all, and others who don't like it much anymore. I'm not quite as into it as I was three or four years ago, but I can still find a few nice tracks I enjoy and mix with. I don't think I've given up on it completely, and I feel the last few months of 2007 have been pretty good, maybe 2008 will be even better. Many ASOT/Armin/Tiesto/Ferry Corsten/Markus Schulz/Above & Beyond etc threads turn into flame matches on there.

No no just be careful. I don't even like Armin that much, but I get slack on there for liking the newer stuff, some stuff he plays. They can just get hostile, so it's best to ignore or be really careful in not making threads where you will be flamed. That's hard, seeing you like Armin and most likely enjoy epic/uplifting trance. People tend to like their sound either tougher or deeper, but not cheesy/pop/mainstream music (or what they deem as that). Older 90s trance (some stuff you probably never heard of), psy trance and prog psy trance, techno, minimal (somewhat) and various house and breaks stuff gets more respect than contemporary trance. So it's really about people trying to expand your tastes into what they like, rather than you liking what you like and being able to have a conversation with others about it uninterrupted. There's a lot of whining and bitching on there about trance being dead, it dying in 1999 or something...Ferry Corsten killing it, what constitutes proper, "real" trance..yada, yada, yada...

If you want to talk about ASOT, Armin, the latest epic trancer...your best bet is Trance.nu. Talk about another form of EDM or a specific kind of trance..not something Armin plays (or is on any of his labels) then stay here. There is some discussion on his CDs which are kind of civil, and they are probably right about the quality degrading cause I feel it has on each new ASOT CD (and his new UR).

production : you produce "ONE" track, sign it with a label and then release it (if you wanna have it released)... DJs then pick up these produced tracks and mix them into other produced tracks (like what you hear in a club)!!

Regarding production, there's an entire section dedicated to production.

You may have more luck there if you're looking for production advice. There should also be numerous threads about gear for production.

Personally, though, I would start off with an inexpensive software package (FL Studio comes to mind; there are different versions at different price points) to get a feel for production before getting any hardware.

A MIDI keyboard will be vastly helpful, since it makes composing that much easier when you can just play it rather than try to click it out with a mouse.

Cheers, and enjoy your stay. Don't let a few people ruin your experience. It's the internet after all. Thing is, some people create alternate accounts (alts) and troll with them. Most of these accounts are usually created recently, and they're pretty numerous. It's very likely that some people automatically equate a new account (yours was created Dec. 2007, and we're just a few days into December) with an alt, and respond in kind.

And a bit off-topic: ASOT for me is hit or miss, some episodes I abhor, while others are pleasant to listen to. And, the latest UR seems forced (top-list tracklist, poor transitions/mixing, etc.)
