Judging by the last few lines, I think some of the build tools (aclocal, autoconf) aren't installed. Try doing a 'apt-get install build-essential' and see if that works.

If it still complains about missing programs, try searching for the program by name (apt-cache search ) and installing the relevant packages that show up as matches.

I put in the apt-get command for build-essential package. It was installed. I got autoconf with apt-get, but I still can't find aclocal. Any other ideas? Google isn't turning out useful results.

According to this page, it's part of the 'automake' package.

If I remember correctly, there may be multiple versions of automake in the apt repositories. I'd try the one with the highest version number first, unless it explicitly looks for a particular version in the output when you're compiling.

Thanks for the tip. I installed automake and got the aclocal file. Though now I'm having other issues. The system still can't track time coded vinyls after installing the package. Also, when xwax is opened, the computer speaker was having a lot of static noises that seemed to mix with the actual track. Do you have any ideas where to go from here?

Right now, the "Quickstart" guide is now out of date. To use the Rane interface, you simply need ALSA 10.0.15 (or Kernel 2.6.24) and xwax 0.3.

There's no need to use the patching and dev versions described in the guide anymore as these eventually became the release.

On Ubuntu 7.10, compile the alsa-driver 10.0.15 sources from http://www.alsa-project.org/ and then try xwax 0.3 from http://www.xwax.co.uk/download.html
