for a good reason! it cost an arm and a leg!

also there is a need to differentiate between DJ headphones (for actual DJing) and studio monitor headphones (for productions)

not that you can't use studio monitors for djing

You can, but I don't recommend it - not the headphones anyways; the speaker monitors are fine though.

I've tried using my BeyerDynamic DT770s (studio headphones) for mixing - I find it picks out the wrong elements when DJing. Just personal opinion though.

HD 280s are DJ headphones, not studio monitors. Even the high-end Sennheiser headphones are "audiophile" types, not reference monitors. That Sony model is sort of in between, being decent but not great for a variety of applications.

Reference headphones are something like the Beyerdynamic DT100 or DT770 (which I hate), or the AKG K271 or K240. You would not want to DJ with those. They reveal all of the high frequencies and don't do anything to clean up the sound, so your ears would be bleeding after several hours of constant playback. Something like the Sennheiser HD 600 would give similar results, but not as harsh on the highs, which makes them better for casual listening but not as good for production.

Haha why do you hate the 770s? I find them extremely handy
