Batman Begins clearly saved (or restarted the batman franchise).

I was surprised to read months ago the a 'pretty boy' was playing Joker, but then again make up can make anyone look ugly. Plus joker never really looked ugly...just crazy.

While I do believe that the Joker is one of the best villains EVER because of his psychosis... I realize how difficult it is to follow in the footsteps of a 3 time oscar winner for best actor.

Most would agree that the batman franchise got WAY to comical (parden the pun) after the original film.

The clips look pretty good to me. I expect many more powerful scenes in the movie.

Landing this role is a HUGE achievement for the 'first knight'.

I hope this sequel follows the same dark/cold themes that the comics did.

Batman > Superman by a gagillion.

Edit: I doubt the 'oscar' label until I see the entire film.

playing a developed comic book character is really hit or miss. Usually the latter.

Meh. While I do agree he's got big shoes to fill, you can't even compare the Joker that Heath is playing to the one that Jack played. Apples and oranges, man.

Didn't we already do this jack vs heath thing?

So what villains can we expect for the next (third) one, and who would you want to play them?

Well considering neither of us has seen the film you are correct...

but because I have an opionion about everyting...Actually I can...

My comparison is more like royal galas and Golden delicious Jen (two of the most popular apples in my eyes)

Original Batman was dark...cold....even sinister. (it was all the others that were cheese mcomiceeze)

Jack played the cold psychotic villain exceptionally. But I why would he deviate from the comics that have developed the particular character so well.

SOOOOO......

now that BATMAN BEGINS has returned to the original theme of the dark knight comics I can only assume that Heath Ledger will play the exact same character (just with better effects). I expect to have many similar scenes throughout the film.

Didn't you feel the nostalgia in the clip with the 'batbike' speeding right at the fearless joker with gun pointing and then skidding out of the way???

First thing I thought was the original Batman with 'batplane/jet whatever' flying right at jack nicholas laughing with the 6 foot pistol pointing at it.

I am very confident that the movie's script and the director's vision makes the Jokers very comparable.(only time will tell though)

Downloading/loading the trailer now. The teaser for it is nuts as well. I cannot wait to see this. Somehow I could see Ledger as the Joker, kind of how Mark Hamill played him in the cartoon, really well. (esp when they got the cartoon movies going wow.) This will be gooooooooooood.

Zentac, I see what you're saying man, but I still think it is apples an oranges. Especially in how pure evil (and chilling with the laugh especially) Heath's joker comes in comparison to the joker of the cartoon (which I think how the comic was meant to be). Nicholson was good but I didn't get so creeped out watching him, it was too cartooney in the unbelievable way in some parts of the movie. With Hamil's joker sure there were laughs and it WAS a cartoon in the movie versions it didn't feel that way at all. That's where I think Ledger's joker is going.

I always though Mark Hamill did a better job voicing Joker than Jack Nicholson did playing him. I think Jack did a great job but to me it was always Jack playing the Joker, but with with Heath it looks like him truly being Joker the character not an actors version of it and in the end I think that makes for a better film; especially to the real fans, the ones who have read the comics and grew up loving Batman.

Ah yes, but I'm a bit of a comic book geek. Heath's Joker is based around The Killing Joke, from what I've read in Wizard. And I do own a copy.

I also own both The Dark Knight Returns, and The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

So I'm coming at this from strictly a comic book fan's point of view.

both batman begins and the dark knight have nothing to do with the graphic comic 'the dark knight'.

david goyer who wrote the first film used 'year one' as his inspiration for batman begins. only inspiration though as much of the film digressed from what 'year one' was about.

this new film is a sequel to that idea. it is not and has nothing to do with 'the dark knight' graphic comic series which deals with a retired batman and stir crazy bruce wayne aged 55 years and training the new robin, a girl named carrie, to help with the new war on gotham.

'the dark knight' film that will be released this july takes place mere months after 'begins'.

just to clear all this up.

and heath > jack.

i just wanna add that Jack Nicholson's joker was based on Cesar Romero's Joker from the 60s TV show with adams west. Nicholson was more of a wicked, evil, yet goofy clown-villain. Heath Ledger plays a sardonic, fierce psychopath.
so its really apples and oranges.

+1

Seems like they got away from the whole 'bad guy falls in mysterious chemical vat and becomes supervillan' thing and just made him this dark, mysterious creepo...I like.

I'm also a big fan of the style. The original Batman was great, but still very comic-booky, and just spiraled down out of control until Batman, Robin and Batgirl were hopping into plastic vehicles fitted with neon tubes, racing off to fight over the top villains dressed in outrageous costumes in lairs decorated with black-light paint. Pass.

This time, Gotham looks and feels like modern NY, instead of trying to fit that overly 'gothic' depiction.

Heath Ledger looks and acts the part, can't wait to see what he can do with the movie as a whole.

Good cast all around and damn sure to be a summer blockbuster. I'm in.

Batman FTW!
