And they've also reintroduced the tax-cut for the lowest income-tax bracket from 15.5% back down to 15%, retroactive to January 2007. In other words, their .5% raise on the original Liberal tax-cut was just completely undone. So people in that tax bracket should enjoy that. I don't know if that affects me or not... but people getting to keep their money is a good thing in my book. |
Yes it affects you. Every single tax paying canadian pays 15% on about 28 of your first 37 thousand made. The other 9000 is the basic personal amount and is therefore non taxable. Only on dollars between 37-75 thousand will you pay at the second rate of 23%. this continues as you move up into the brackets. This prevents the common misconseption that one can make less take home money due to being bumped into the next bracket.

Groceries are exempt from GST. If cans of food ARE taxed (and I don't think they are), then poor shoppers should stop buying canned food, and buy basic meat, milk, bread and vegetables and learn to cook for themselves to save the GST cost.
Laying off on the cigarettes and booze would probably help as well.

Bullshit.
Those forces combine to create a soaking, boiling mudstorm on Valentine's Day.
