I always give chances to whoever asks me and I think they're worth putting my reputation on the line. As a matter of fact, two DJ's I gave their first chance to, are now on two separate LA Radio Stations. When both of them called me to tell me they got on the radio it made me feel proud! They're my prodigies! Hehehe

Well I'm just making my point based upon what s3nate said

I've known many people that haven't helped others out because they are afraid of competition. Especially when someone is better.

All the big gigs I've gotten have been through friends and my sister who promotes down here. It's all about who you know, however at the very least you need a demo of your style/skill/competence and a business card/logo doesn't hurt.

I'll give that a try. There is only one other Psytrance DJ who is with them (The Digital Over) and he plays mostly the stuff J00f plays.

Well hey at least it's psytrance... and theres lots of all ages stuff with that. My plan for getting gigs is... starting up a pirate radio station... playing on there (probably involve genres of music I don't like but still) and maybe eventually throwing a gig and going from there. Probably a fair bit of work but I hope it pays off.

Also what about just talking with people? Do you know anyone through friends/other hobbies (e.g. gaming?) that are into psytrance? I know this guy through my mums choir who makes darkpsy here... we "trade" burnt cds and stuff but I'm sure if I keep talking to him and he thinks I'm a good DJ then he'd probably help out with getting gigs. Try talking to your parents friends... or even your friends parents friends and see if theres any influential people in your pool of influence maybe.

I'm probably in the same situation as you though... but a year behind so theres just some ideas.

LOL...just raise some money and start throwing parties, yourself...and book yourself at them.... Just joking about booking yourself at your own parties...I wouldn't suggest it unless there is actually a demand for you. Some promoters do book themselves, at their own party, but they have a big fan base, so it's OK. Though, even then, they do get called out sometimes, by some jealous DJs, and they end up having to stand up for themselves or have their friends and fans stand up for them...For you and I, not a good ideal to book ourselves at our own party...

Anyway, if you can throw some parties and they are some good ones, you'll notice that other crews will start to book you as long as you can hook some of their DJs at your parties, too. To throw parties...Start small...and get bigger. The bigger your parties get, the more other crews will notice you...

You can also start helping other crews at at their events...Get involved with your local scene. While you're helping them out, you could hand them some demos of yours....Just to let them know that you do DJ and will fill in a spot if they need a DJ...Just don't say anything or ask to get booked...they'll know that you are a DJ and you don't want to make it look like the reason why you are helping them is so that they'll book you...In fact, I wouldn't hand them a demo until you've help them out a couple of times...then one day, you can say "Hey, here's a mix I just made! Let me know what you think!".

If they like it, they might just give you an opening or closing spot...If you do good, they'll give you better DJ slots. If they don't like your mix, maybe they'll give you great constructive criticism for you to work on. If so, just stfu and thank them...and go on and practice and make a new demo later to give to them....Do this until they invite you to spin at a party...but never ask to get booked!

But the number #1 way I think for you to get a shot is to become involve with your local rave scene...That way promoters know that you are out there...
