Oh I see.

and MrJiveBoJingles- it's not that piercings are thought of as being unreliable, it's more like most companies want want a clean image and having an employer with holes in his/her face doesn't really classify as clean....unless you're working in a tattoo/piercing parlor.lol

Maybe. I think the reasoning goes something more like this:

Visible tattoos and nose / eyebrow / lip piercings = lower class.

Lower class = dirty, stupid, and possibly criminal.

It might be taboo to spell out that sort of thought process.

DUDE! go ahead and get every possible tattoo and piercings, especially about the face. i fully support your decision to (as you so eloquently put it) modify your body.

don't worry about the future and potential careers. WHO CARES! you can have kick ass tats and piercings all over the place and strut around proudly .

even better when girls see you they'll find you dark and mysterious. no girl is looking for a stable looking guy that they could have a serious relationship with! all they want is some dirty fucking from an inked up guy with a shitload of metal in his face.

go for it!

Awww, need a Hug???

1) Its one lip ring. It can be removed quite easily. If it can still be seen and feel the need to cover it over that much i can grow some hair. Fairly simple.

2) The tattoo is not a fashion item. Its in a place that won't be seen unless my top is off. Its small and its something I believe in. It represents what I feel about life.

So yeah, its nice to know you Care

Really? My right ear now hands a tad bit lower than my left one but, other than that, it's hard to tell I've ever had those piercings.

Even though, in my case, I don't think an extra dot would draw to much attentiont to itself, due to the numerous scars I already have (as you can see in those pics).

I've never come across anyone who has a problem with nose rings, probably because most just keep a tiny little stud that wont get hooked on anything and get yanked or ripped out. It has a lot to do with safety as well. Lip rings and eyebrow rings are out..OUT of your face and easier to get caught.

That's understandable. But the safety and "holes in your face" explanations still leave the "tattoo taboo" unexplained.

It's not really a hole, but you can see where the hole was.

I don't see anything wrong with the tattoos at all, hence why I haven't mentioned it. If you're covered for work (button up, long sleeved shirts, sweaters, suit jackets) then who cares where your tattoos are as long as it's not your face itself. One of our guys at work who is probably the most conservative piece of shit ever, has a whole back tattoo mural thing, one on his arm and one on his leg. If your job is with the public and dealing with them on a day to day basis, it's better to keep a clean image anyway.

The thing is, how are tattoos even "dirty?" Especially when other forms of decoration like makeup are not considered dirty.

I still think that the traditional "lower class" association of visible tattoos is what gets to people, and why tattoos are verboten in workplaces.

Actually, I'd say that its association with criminals is the problem here.

When I got myself pierced, my parents thought I had gone to hell
