That's good news for Basshunter... and all the atheists, who will welcome this new proof of their theory.

Allright, I know I did that one already somewhere else.

Not all kinds of shit music is unbelievably popular at all times. Tunes like this one get pumped out by the bucketload, and none of them hit #1 (most don't hit the charts at all).

The only reason this tune stood out was because of the IRC-gimmick in the original Swedish version, which gave it loads of hype via Scandinavian computer geeks. Now that the gimmick is gone, it is surprising that the tune still manages to do as well in the charts abroad, as it doesn't base itself on past pop hits like Cascada or similar acts have done.

No one is claiming all shit music becomes popular - but that it does in general really shouldn't shock anyone. Fucks sake, "Heaven" and "Barbie Girl" were absolutely massive over here in the States.

In general I just think that pop music charts are littered with garbage (and sometimes the occasional gem), so it really doesn't surprise me at all to see something like this do well.

Heaven and Barbie Girl were based on a previously big pop hit and a massive gimmick respectively. This tune has neither, which is why I'm surprised that it has gone to #1. If people would lap up any two bit pop dance tune like this, Pulsedriver and Special D would be on Top of the Pops by now.

If The Powers That Be are trying to make such cringe-worthy euro-dance moments like the chant "techno techno techno techno!" and the rap "I'm serious as cancer 'cause rhythm is a dancer!" seem like genius in hindsight, them Powers are definitely succeeding.

Objectively bad products have a long history of being successful. Cascada, the iPod, Transformers, etc. It's an endless list. I see two reasons for this:

1) Buying often is not an intellectual but an emotional process.
2) People are stupid.
