No one is claiming all shit music becomes popular - but that it does in general really shouldn't shock anyone. Fucks sake, "Heaven" and "Barbie Girl" were absolutely massive over here in the States.
In general I just think that pop music charts are littered with garbage (and sometimes the occasional gem), so it really doesn't surprise me at all to see something like this do well.
