Many labels release singles with a few remixes alongside the original track...and many remixes just come later on. All it basically means is that another artist has created a different version of that track (sometimes radically different), often using enough samples of the original so you can still hear remnants of it.
That said, check out Discogs.com, as it's an incredibly useful database consisting of countless artists, tracks, and labels for you to search through. It has plenty of information regarding artists and remix titles that I'm sure you would find useful in making sense of all this.
