In most cases I would agree that the converters would be responsible for colouring the sound. But I've tried this test through my Motu24i/o, 2408 and RME Fireface. All of which have extremely good converters, and the result is the same, the analog outs still sound "better" at the same RMS level. It sounds like there is more harmonic content, it might be due to distortion in the virus DA converters.

For whatever reason, my analogue outs are actually quieter than the USB outs. I don't notice any difference though once I get them to the same level

i do all my arrangement with the usb in Ableton but as soon as the track is done i go over it all again with the analog outs into my audiophile card... the sample rate/latency just so many things are better.. it's what ur supposed to do.
