Good thread. I face almost the same problem with Live..

'am currently working with 512mb Ram (DDR) and thinking of replacing it with 1gb stick but would it make any difference ?

Am currently using AMD Athlon 2400 + MMX 2.0 ghz.

More RAM won't do much at all. You need a faster CPU.
