Not so much charity, but I'm also involved with the couchsurfing.com project as a host. I host visitors to Toronto from time to time, and show them around and/or share info about the city as well as Australia. At the same time I learn about their travel experiences, cultures, etc. Really cool concept, and a great way to travel (as opposed to staying in hostels/hotels).

I don't give nearly enough and I work for a charity. Other than giving to where I work, I like to give to small activist projects that are trying to make community change. The groups have the motto, "Change, not Charity." While I am here I will make a plug for the Funding Exchange www.fex.org which gives money to innovative and creative activist projects around the US.

A good book to read if you are interested in giving to social change is "Robin Hood Was Right" by Chuck Collins.

Ya, I just wish I could give more, but if you don't start giving when you don't have money, it is unlikely that you will become this uber charitable person who gives lots of money later in life when you have the resources.

Let's not forget that charity is not only limited to money. You can give time and labour too. Be a volunteer!

You can even be an online volunteer.

I build houses for my senior year with habitat of humanity.


Working for a year volunteer work with a non-profit after graduating in december. Mostly i am doing it to further my chances of finding a good job but its charity anyhow
