apparently 40 gerrard is such a building, at least on the upper floor

amazing how long, loud or at what level music can be played there w/o complaints.

its very refreshing to see either a) very tolerant neighbours, or b) apartments that are so well insulated that the noise really, truly doesnt bleed into the other apartments besides and above/below!

Yeah honestly. If you enjoy loud music, headphones kills the enjoyment. Even the DJ headphones don't come close to the feeling of a nice sub pushing bass.

yeah, headphones isn't the same at all. And i'm not talking about club levels here, I have spent a lot of money and time on a great sound system and I would like to able to use it around 85-90 dB without stress.

I've read into soundproofing, but its really the vibrations from low bass that are the problem, higher frequencies don't travel through walls very easily. It really has a lot to do with how the building is constructed. Usually soundproofing has to be thought of during construction, placing damping in between the walls.

I guess my search continues for now...

Used to live above an acupuncture clinic, and while they were open during the days I had to keep the volume down, once they closed shop for the day - I could blast as loud as I wanted and my roommates would tolerate.

Was nice, I miss that place

I feel your pain man. I hate my apartment for that sole reason. Feels like the amount of time I listen to music has gone down at least 90% since being here. Good thing I'm out, and into a house Sound proof basement room baby.

Soundproofing is an option, but you have to also worry about the sound escaping through the floor and ceiling.

If you want truly proper sound at any time of day, the only way to really go about it is to get your own house, or loft, or find some extremely tolerant neighbours. (even with a house with certain sub-division designs, the bass will travel to the tightly packed homes near by, so sound dampening insulation is still needed).

This is the problem I've run into with working in the studio. Luckily for me at the place I currently rent has a bunker in the sub-basement I've converted into a sound-proofed room, so when sound does escape (which is only bass) it only ends up in my own kitchen. So other than the odd dinner plate rattling around, pretty solid
