What are the chances of that happening?
Well I always download all the tracks I own on vinyl, because I know eventually after a lot of plays, the quality of the record will degrade, and you can still listen to the mp3 file, which is not only acceptable, but perfectly legal, if the mp3 file itself is a vinyl rip

But what you answered with had nothing to do with anything.

Well yeah, he said I was being stupid to ask this question: "Would it be legally acceptable to get the FULL version of the tracks via for example illegal download sites, and play them out at gigs ? **assuming I own the original**"
So yeah, I think my answer make sense

like alot of people i know, i generally don't play vinyl anymore except on rare occasions when messing around in my room. when playing out i only use cds & wanted a few old tunes to finish my set last night, seeing as i had the closing slot.. a couple of which i only had on vinyl. so i had a choice between recording my own rips from a dusty old vinyl/aging stylus/mediocre soundcard, or obtaining fresh unscathed CDS/album rips from DC++...
wasn't too much of a hard choice after adding it up. done it numerous times before too

The laws vary from country to country. Here in Canada we have the copying levies... so technically you can copy what you own to a backup without penalization. Downloading stuff you already own is in a legal grey area (as are most of the other things you talk about) but of course, who is going to care?
