As mentionned in some ways earlier :

Each time you listen to a vinyl you are slowly wearing it out because of the friction between the needle and the record. That's why old old old records that were played 1000's of times sound like crap ( dust factor set aside ).

If you have a crappy needle ( worn out or damaged ) you're causing the same type of damage only it's going much faster. Bad needles = wrecked vinyl.
