I would say the complete opposite, his melbourne one is probably the weakest of the 3. Horses for courses i guess, but buenos aires and cape town are IMHO fucking awesome, melbourne is meh.
Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus on GU Melbourne, but the only reason I advised that he overlook his GU releases was because they don't at all seem to reflect the type of style he's looking for.
But all that aside, Melbourne really started to grow on me after a few listens. They make no secret of it being 'different' (I think they even nod to this in the sleeve notes), but it definitely has its moments.

Dave Seaman's "Awakening" is still the high point of his sound. He's always been a bit of a taste-follower rather than an innovator, but he does have a way of occasionally presenting things very well.
saw him again in Austin on Saturday at SKY and he leveled the club just to add.

Could not agree more... even after all these years, Awakening is still one of the greatest commercially available mixes ever IMO.
I see where you are coming from - there are definitely more innovative DJs out there, but I've always enjoyed his sound. I also have to give him credit for what he's done with his label and his mixes. He had a large impact in boosting the international careers of some great producers - Phil K, Luke Chable, and Infusion to name a few...

I did like his style in the mid-90s, where he mixed up epic/progressive house with some deeper, funkier stuff. Bit of a different take on the whole thing. Not really checked out anything else of his though.

Looks like I'll be budgeting for Desire and Awakening, then. Cheers.

i haven't been into Dave Seaman much in recent years, but some of his older releases were some of the first CDs i really got into. i'd recommend any of these:
Global Underground 012: Buenos Aires
Global Underground 016: Cape Town
Global Underground 022: Melbourne
Renaissance - The Masters Series Part Three: Desire
Back To Mine
this last one is downtempo/chillout, and it's just a beautiful mix from beginning to end. i think it could be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of whether they like trance or house.
