Look, anybody who has actually done their homework and looked at the international development industry with any seriousness knows that there are problems, yes, but that the international community helps more than it hurts. Naysayers by and large don't know what they're talking about because they haven't actually looked at African case studies with an analytic eye at all.
It's a common perception among the uneducated on the subject that Africa is mired in interminable ethnic wars, poverty, and disease and that nothing has improved in the past twenty years - and that is a dead wrong assumption.

Uhh, I don't think anyone has been discussing "interventionism" here. The discussion was about whether certain types of aid are good for Africa...

This is the most simplistic statement I've ever read in my life. Development is interventionist? And furthermore, if intervention is universally evil, why did the US get involved in WWII? Why bail out the Mexican economy in 1994? Why send NATO planes into Bosnia?
Did we do the right thing by turning away from Rwanda? Darfur? Liberia? Sierra Leone?
More fundamentally, and this is no longer directed primarily at Krypton, but are black lives worthy of Western intervention, or does the threshold for moral responsibility lie in the threat to white Europeans or Americans?

More effort should be made to exploit the cheap labor that can be found within Africa, instead of relying so heavily on Asia.

I like it. We could call it: ethical slavery.

This is what I'm thinking...
Let them develop themselves. Help them with trade. Build factories to get people working. The key is to get everyone working.
The key question here is..."How can native agriculture and other sectors compete against subsidized donations?
