Hey I know what your doing, posting comments/remarks that are impossible to resist and argue on...I'm much smarter than you think and I'm on to you. (DJ's are intellectual people - it takes a great intellectual mind to be a successful DJ, just look at Tiesto, reportedly quite a 'dork' but a 'dork' that properly channels his intellect which results in his wild success). Deep down you want to see what my creative response is, and in part it mildly entertains you to read it...so here you are...
Come on man...this HALFJAP guy, I do know as a friend (and no, not that imaginary friend), its not "me" the DJ signing in on another account, I'm really not that desperate. But, wow! You must think pretty low of me...I kinda wish I could change that, but in the end its not me that has to change. Anyway, he is a pround supporter of the show, and has his own style of communicating just like us all. Furthermore, if you look at the signature writing styles, it is all too clear they come from different minds. But besides that point, I must say it is very cool that you support EDM especially from/in sask where I understand that there is no market, and you probably have to travel to see the big name DJ's, which I commend you for, thats a true fan.
RESPONDING to the 'copying of popular DJ's tracklist'
Copying from a single source is called plagiarism, copying from multiple source is called research.
I understand that you think I am copying the big DJ's tracklist, but it's not completely true. The truth is I select some epics, some current "top 40 (if you will)" and many "underdog" productions. I most definately have my own style which is admittingly a mash of 10 different DJ's that have different tastes, some popular DJ's some not. Trance is not commonly spun here much so I highly doubt their will be complaints in the playing of epics and favs. To prove my unselfishness...I am not a house DJ by nature, but as this city seems to love its house genre I have diversified and collected feedback on what is the most thoroughly enjoyed tracks - so there will be a generous dose of house/electro house. I pride myself on being a DJ for the people, as they are my clients and I serve them. If they want to hear the house hits then so be it. Personally I like more of the NOT WELL KNOWN trance songs (which to me are my "top 40")but there is no market for that, and it can only be intuitively faded into a set instead of dominating the set.
QUOTED - "Edit: After reading your original post all the way through this is what I meant about the predicting your tracklist a bit:
"Also, be sure to get there early so you don't miss your favorite hits like Timberlake remixes, Destination Calabria, FLG and David Guetta hits!"
If your passionate about music then let people come to hear your music, rather than trying to pull them in with old overplayed tunes."
RESPONSE - can I be honest here? I agree with the fact they are overplayed, I sure think so, but my research has shown that it was highly requested those tunes be played. Do I like JT? No not really. The FLG classics? Yeah, I'm getting tired of them aswell, but I had to realize its not about what I want to hear its what the majority of my clients want, and they get want the want, because not everybody serves them them like they should be served. If I played only "my passionate selection of tracks" like you suggested (which I still do, in part)it would not be a show for the people but rather a selfish all-about-me-show, which is too arrogant and, well, self centered. Like I have said before I love trance, I am a trance DJ by passion, but the market condradicts my passion. So instead of quiting or completely selling out to house I have collaborated styles. I give them what they want and throw in my passion for trance/tech trance here and there, but I dont completley force it on them. I read their response through body language and I learn from that for upcoming events. What else can I do, honestly? Oh and BTW I know trance all to well, I'm a fricken trance DJ, feel free to test my knowledge anytime...I dare you! LOL < mocking halfjap, LOL
Well it looks like we agree to agree and agree to disagree on some points but it has been a good arguementative thread and I have learned some and will take much as advice. Thanks for all your opinions and even the ones that "don't really matter and we should ignore."
Another novel in the achive and way too much damn writing, but its been fun. - Out...finally!
