A broker is a good idea if you don't know anything about insurance....a good broker can be a lot of help in explaining things...although in my 11 years as an adjuster I've seen a lot of brokers who don't properly explain the coverages to people or don't advise them of all the possible options available. I have a broker simply because if something goes south on my claim I can use the broker as a go between.
If you understand insurance or have a background in insurance then a lot of times a direct insurer like Belair or TD can be cheaper.

Rather then just looking at price I would suggest you consider service as well. Not all companies are equal in terms of claims service and believe me... when you have a claim go off the rails you'll wish you'd spent the extra $50-$100 in premium for a better insurer.

Unfortunately, in this day and age most young people don't care or think about the service they may need when they purchase insurance. They look for what is cheapest....this has been brought on by the high cost of insurance and the fact that you can go on-line and purchase insurance without ever talking to someone (and people wonder why they don't know what their policy covers).

Chemy and I are both with Crawford, both have our CIPs. Word of advice... if you're committed to a career as a broker, try to get into commercial lines as soon as possible (way better commissions and easiser books of business to maintain).

Chemy is on the road a lot... I've moved out of the field and into management so no more driving all over the city for me.
