i'm surprised they reached this point.

either way, i'm not sure the "potential" the internet has for gathering offline random events is necessarily a good thing.

Why is that?

- mob-mentality and a chaotic atmosphere, possibly leading into violent/aggressive acts. didn't happen this time, but could.

- the fact that these protests, considered acceptable by the internets, are against an institution that calls itself a religion (although we all know that's a joke). there's a fine line between this and religious intolerance.

Why would that happen more with Internet-organized protests than ones organized by conventional means?

Protests are still part of free speech when they protest against a protected activity.

My impression of 4chan people is that half of them are unbalanced weirdos. I don't get the same impression from most conventional organizations.

I'm not saying these protests should be forbidden, just that organizing anything that goes deeper than these could be a bad idea and cause more harm than good.

i'm sorry , but this is not religious intolerance - it's not the religion that they are against, but possible criminal acts...

religious intolerance is a bad thing when it is state-sponsored and enforced

free citizens ought to have the right to be intolerant, whether you like it or not

it's like the practice of ostracism in greek democracy

also
i really like the subtle connection of rick astley's lyrics with anon's gripes against scientology

I'll once again agree with RJT's assessment of Scientology as an "Idiot Filter".

fine, i do think free speech should be as free as possible

but i'll take advantage of that free speech to label the 4chan guys as borderline ****s for being borderline intolerant
