I think you are wrong on this, China has made threats to invade Taiwan if they declare there sovreignty, and "Whats the difference between Single Party Socialist Rep. or a Communist State" There is none. Germany is a completly different system. China has a Politburo, where as the Germans have a Parliament. When you arent able to speak out against your country while in that country you are under some type of tyranny, weather it be Communism or a so called Single Party Socialist Republic, or Dictatorship. Look up how your Government works. Cause they dont have multiple parties running for office there with different Positions on how the Govt should run.

I think you will find that under the surrender conditions that were signed after WWII the US has a legal responsibility to defend Japan since they are no longer allowed to maintain an army of sufficient size to defend themselves. as far as bases elsewhere is concerned they are just looking out of their own political interests, anyone in the same position would have something similar setup.
