thanks for the replies... i think i'm going to go for that sd870is. i have a really old powershot so i can keep my sd card and i'll have a second battery this way.

lol. your old card probably won't hold anything and can be replaced by one with 20x the capacity for 30 bucks.

also, the 870 is the absolutely the way to go. nothing else comes close, including the 850 (unless you really care about the fps on a non-slr, in which case you don't deserve an 870 anyway).

now that you mentioned that i started looking around for sd cards. on newegg they have the regular sd cards that go up to 4 gb. i noticed they also had "sd/sdhc" cards that can go up to 16 gb. i'm considering grabbing an 8gb card because they're only $30. i looked at the specs for the 870 and it only mentions about the sd cards... is sdhc the same thing?

all cards over 2gb qualify as sdhc (high capacity). the device has to specify that it will read sdhc for them to work. the 870 will read sdhc.
