first of all, not all clubs use technics... he could have quite easily pitched it up to +20% using vestax... although it would have sounded shite

most tracks that get played will be pitched up... simply for mixing purposes as not all tunes get released at the same speed.. i think progressive sounds better pitched up a tiny tiny bit... which is why i love ashley casselle so much, he plays his stuff just that lil bit quicker

if u want to burn a song at a higher pitch, then u will probably be best to use a wave editor like sound forge or cool edit... you will have to open it and alter the pitch then encode it again, but with cool edit this doesnt take too long

nope. I read that they make up the decks so that it's possible to pitch up to 16%.

sweet figured out a way to burn songs with increased pitch, use disk writer out on winamp while having the pitch increase plugin (i used nt pitch) on, then convert the wav file back to mp3 (I used cdex) after and voila you have your increased pitch song....tried it with ferry corsten - punk and katana - fancy fair, both now sound mad as and sound much better like has more energy, punk sounds exactly like pvd played at mayday.....sweet, give it a try and if u have any probs pm me or something

Another good example of this is PVD at Gatecrasher 2002, the first song he plays Orbital Illuminate (Medicine Mix), the normal version is slow and isn't that great of a song, but in that mix it sounds great sped up.

We tried this with a friend a few years ago using a winamp plugin... We discovered that pretty much EVERY song sounded heaps better at +5%!!! But I don't know if that holds true still.

problem with that is (this is true for my computer but i dont know about others) if u use a winamp plugin such as NTpitch it puts a little distortion on it as its playing it at a higher sample rate than it should be....

anyone else have this problem?

Most decks have ways to increase the pitch percentage (mine have a +10% or +20% button which determines the max/min of the pitch) and my buddies gemini's have a hole in which you stick a screwdriver and turn to increase the max/min pitch range

I normally play all my stuff (expect funk or prog) at about +4/5%

Ferry Corsten played EVERY track at +5% pitch at Trance Energy 2000/04/29! When I first heard this set I loved it and got a tracklist. Then, I DL'd some MP3s of those tracks. A lot of songs that he played sounded WAY different because the pitch was NOT adjusted like Ferry did! I didn't know that he changed the pitch of THAT many tracks! Examples:

Moogwai - Viola
Chicane - Don't Give Up (Disco Citizens vs. Tomski Remix)
Gouryella - Tenshi

Especially on the first two, I'm not used to hearing these in a different KEY and since those songs are about the melody, they sound COMPLETELY different! In fact, I like the effect that +5% pitch does to these!

Anyone agree with me?

I notice this with most of the "big name" DJs: If it's going to be sped up AT ALL, put it at +5% or don't mess around with it. Whenever I hear a track in a set, it's either at +5% or NORMAL (0%).
