One press of the "Magic" button, and bobs your uncle, two tracks at the same speed. A fuckin monkey with no arms could mix on Atomixmp3.

If u want to learn how to mix with real turntables but using MP3, I STRONGLY suggest Virtual Turntables. It's the only way u will get the same feel for missed beats, and having to listen to two channels independantly - proper mixing. No automatic beatmatching here!

All in all, u want to be doing the real thing - so give urself a headstart!

Unfortunately VTT isn't being updated anymore, so it's gonna be left in the dust (already has) by programs like PCDJ and Traktor. You can practice mixing like a real DJs on these programs just as well asl VTT... Just turn off the automatic mixing and do it yourself... Actually, I'm not even sure that PCDJ has automatic mixing, cuz if it does I've never used it... I just use it to mix mp3s like a regular DJ would mix records... works great! great practice!

You should be able to download the full versions of PCDJ red and mixmeister, among others, from file sharing programs like kazaa, grokster, etc...

But you didn't hear it from me...

as for "feature-loadedness", Traktor is the best. it even has a small effects processor. the only thing the program lacks (like any other computer mixing software) is the ability to switch the auto-bpm off (coz that only distracts me).

Somebody here said "don't use AtomixMP3, it's a toy; use Mixmeister instead."

Excuse me for being blunt but this is stupid and incorrect. Mixmeister is a toy, because you set everything up prior to execution, and you don't even need to mix the tracks, because the exact details of the transition are pre-arranged.

Mixmeister is mix-engineering software. You still have to be able to use it well before your mix sounds good. Admittedly, it's not real mixing - but it's certainly no toy.

In AtomixMP3, though, you DO need to mix. There's nothing pre-arranged for you, you have to make the transition yourself for each pair of songs.

Remind me where the skill lies in mixing. Many an hour have I sat between a pair of turntables learning how to beat match by ear - don't try to tell me that u learn the same skill in front of atomixmp3. You get a song - play it - get another song, hit the "Magic" button then slip the fader across.

Why the fuck did we ever bother with turntables??! Hmm

If you want the feel of CD decks use PCDJ Red or BPM Studio. BPM Studio is what I use, as it's more stable. But both replicate decks really closely - just plug it into an external mixer and you're golden.

lol. thats cuz the program does it for you.

dtt looks nice. if they make the eq real-time, and lose the windows interface, it'll be the best, and it'll be free/open source too.

but alas, since i've gotten my techs, i haven't touched any computer mixing program in a long long time. occasionally to test out mixes cuz i'm too lazy to go to my decks, or to play songs i don't have on vinyl... but as my collection grows, those days are few and far between.

Exactly

Anyway, I think it's cool to be able to mix some mp3s without having to be in practice for months to get a decent transition.

I was doing this set a week ago mixing dnb, rap, house, trance, funk and jungle.. it was crazy It was just for some friends.. I was mixing Scuarepusher in with dj premier.. it actually sounded ok.. hehe. It was a lot of fun.. and not serious at all.

Respek!

vtt

I'm using PCDJ Red, and some external stuff.

Here's my setup:
Presario Laptop ->
running PCDJ Red (connected via serial to Numark DMC-1) ->
output to 2 soundcards (1 internal/1 external) ->
soundcards feeding into Stanton mixer ->
output to headphones/speakers

Here's a pic of the setup:

Good luck
