Hey, there's nothing wrong with cheese, the first techno I ever started listening to was like scooter/DJ Sakin/DJ Sammy/Ian Van Dahl not to mention a bunch of cheesy eurodance artists. It is strange that you thought the trance you listened to before was too linear compared to that though, But you have to realize the word "trance" is thrown around alot by people to refer to songs that are nowhere near trance-like.

It has been discussed before that there is a difference in what is called Techno in Europe and then specially in Germany and the older Techno you probably are refering to which has US origin.

Sorry for laughing, but you do realize that is one of the most commercial tracklists I've ever seen. Was it a mix or just a compilation of tracks?

I'm in agreeance with RJT. What was the trance you were highly recommended that sounded monotonous and linear?

I don't get it, why is it bad when a tracklist looks commercial to you? Does it matter at all?
I had BBE - Seven Days And One Week about a year and a half on vinyl before it became a hit. It has been underground in clubs during that period and was not commercial at all. So after it became a hit it now is commercial and bad???

So you only listen to unsuccessfull producers and drop them when they by accident make a hit?

Germany (specifically Berlin) is the centre of current techno trends, and I do mean real techno, not some stupid catch-all buzzword application of the term by clueless folk.

Current = 2008 I think. I'm talking about around 1995.

Quote from Scootertechno.com:
quote:
Back in 1994 the worldwide party nation was celebrating rave culture in the underground as new techno clubs sprung up everywhere, while the charts were dominated by mindnumbing Euro dance and mainstream singles. At that time, "Hyper Hyper" could not be considered a commercial track by any stretch of the imagination, and yet Scooter took the charts by storm, launching techno into the overground overnight.

But I don't want to start a discussion about it because I don't think there is a right answer.
