That camera work is so funny, is there even a crowd behind the camera there? All you can see is the booth, it may as well be Paul's bedroom!
Its clubnight show. They have guest DJs do mixes while they spam info on the bottom and right side -- no crowd either. The episode w/ Magda is hot

i didnt see the videos but sometimes i'll cue up the incoming track a couple of phases in sometimes depending on how the song was produced so that i cue up starting with whatever phase introduces a kick or heavier drums i can use to hear better through the headphones as some vinyls i have start off kind of light

Is anyone else getting a kick out of these Clubnight videos? I just watched the Magda and Sven Vath ones--they're great!

It's feels kinda silly watching them DJ in this ultra-cheesy room with some fat guy reading the newspaper in the background. I kinda picture it as what it might look like if Magda did bar mitzvahs.

I do it occasionally (cue up the 3rd beat rather than the 1st for example) if I'm not sure exactly when a build-up's gonna drop or something, or if the track I'm mixing in has an awkward intro and it just works out better that way...

But the fact that he does it for every mix in this video makes me think the video's just out of sync with the audio

Have tried this before, but it felt awkward. It's hard not to let the track go off on the beginning of the phrase
But when I miss the start, I usually just pitch bend like crazy to get "in-phrase" again. Maybe not the best solution if really in a hurry but..

Depends on the situation.

The problem with cueing a couple of beats ahead is you need to know quite early whether you're going to have trouble hitting the beat, or you need to do it every single time - which I agree feels awkward, doesn't really work with me either so I try and save it for when I know I'm going to need it.

But then the problem with just pitchbending like crazy is it can sometimes be hard to know when you're back in time, or even when you've overshot (cos you may well be panicking a bit which throws your judgement off!) If you've missed by less than a beat, it's normally still the best (and easiest) way to recover though.

There are loads of other options as well, like dropping it at the start of the next bar if you miss the drop-in, then choose an appropriate time to give the track playing a loop for a bar and hope no one notices

maybe pvd always cues like that because of dodgy intros or not being entirely sure when the beat comes back? if you can get used to cueing like that i would think it'd be an advantage. sure other people would wonder how the fuck you are cueing etc. but you should use whatever works for you.
i didn't watch the videos closely though, because i can't be bothered, but from what i gathered by reading the thread and thinking about it, it seems like maybe it's actually a wise way to cue.
also he seems to be wearing his headphones the wrong way (left side on right ear and vice versa), so maybe he's just not that bright.

Haha!

Tbh most people I see play have their headphones on the wrong way round - probably cos Pioneer mixers have the headphone socket on the left hand side and most headphones have the cable coming out of the right hand cup.
