what i meant was: use other effects as volume atuomation will sound in 99% of the cases so cheap.

I've tried "mastering" my own tracks by compressing them, but all i get is crap because compression is dastardly difficult to use.
I just mix it up in ModPlug Tracker until i'm satisfied and then leave it at that.
I eventually do want to try to mix and master by chopping the pieces of the track up into track length portions, but Audacity eats so much memory.
Anyway, producing is a hobby, so no need for my concern.
