if you want such choir pads check the korg m1 out. it has one which is almost exactly the same. try to layer it with some suppersaws from any synth and you're there.

I really like using the Arturia Minimoog for pads.

I agree with Icone on this one. Although Nexus has great sounds, you're stuck with doing slight modifications to those unless you want to use FX to drown out the original sound and somehow create your own.

You're better off grabbing a copy of Atmosphere, Z3ta+, Albino, Cameleon 5000, etc....to get the sounds that you'd like....and then you always have the option of modifying the sounds you like in order to create your own.

Honestly, depending on what you want the end product to sound like, you will most likely be using any and all shapes. If you're going for wooshes(wind), you'll be using noise shapes often....then again, you could use something else and throw effects on it to get the desired sound. Try looking at your favorite presets to get an example of what they've done, then experiment with the settings to see what happens to the original sound and then you'll get more of an idea on how they work.

I love the sound of a few sine waveforms slightly detune and panned hard against each other, the way they morph sounds fucking mint. Some nice filter sweeps/resonance and then some verb and delay with some flangers or phasers. Fucking sickkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

For an example listen to "Orchid's - Almost Grey" at the intro...

What are you talking about? Applying filters to sines is just the same as lowering their volume..

Surprised no one mentioned PSP Vapor yet. A lot of depth in the sounds.

+1 I've used strings from atmosphere a few times, but that's it. I would never use a pad from nexus for example. That would make me feel cheap somehow.

I've used pro53 for pads in the past, but now I tend to use zebra or my andromeda for pads - or even a combo of the two.

Depends what you define as a "good" pad sound.

Personally I would say Absynth.
