the thing about the euphonix is that it's streamlined into the sequecer and isn't a workaround like the novation stuff. (subhosting of plugins)

beside that the euphonix stuff is just more sexy to look at and the touchsecreen is great too. i always loved the lemur interface.

if money plays a role then sure novation is great. but if you don't care about prices i would go euphonix imho.

as far as i am aware, the euphonix controllers use the same protocol as the mackie controllers (mackie hui, etc). i'll agree this is without a doubt the best protocol for mixer control, but that is about as far as it goes. it is definately not ideal for controlling plugins, which you will quickly realise when you try one out. in the absense of a system like sonar's active controller technology, using a wrapper like automap is the only real option. truth be told, ACT isn't really very good, as you have no parameter readout etc. you are flying blind.

here's my take...

mixer control -> euphonix or mackie
plugin control -> automap or a dedicated midi box (uc-33e etc.)
mixer AND plugin control -> automap

of course, these protocols are all very complex and every daw handles them differently. for example, there is little point in getting an mcu if you run ableton - all you would get is fader and pan control. if you're getting an mcu or euphonix console, you would really want sonar, logic or cubase, since they have a more regimented channel eq/send/insert system.

euphonix has it's own protocol called eucon. it must be implemented native in a daw. technical details can be found here: http://www.euphonix.com/pro/post/pr...eucon/index.htm

it automaps controls like novation. the nice thing about the euphonix is imho the OLED touchscreen. which shows you direct graphical the current values and other things.

In Ableton Live I can control with my Remote Zero the transport controls, mixer, clips, anything really and its with great ease. I couldn't see myself ever being without it. Maybe it would be nice to have the great big desk but, I can still control any parameter with no effort.

cyrus just enlightened me on msn about the new eucon protocol haha. the euphonix controllers do hui emulation etc. but the new protocol looks amazing. i withdraw the above comments!

if you can afford a euphonix, it's the one to get! the videos don't really show all the cool stuff they can do...

that said... the novation remote zero is still best bang for buck, provided you don't mind using a wrapper.

I don't use a wrapper, it is integrated with Ableton Live and Reason, I could use the wrapper but there is no need.
