I use RAID1 to mirror my project drive just to I dont have to remember to backup anything which is usefull.

you should be able to build a pretty good machine for far less than a grand...

a good motherboard and a quad core processor will be good, but you can make do with a dual core still...

4+ gb of ram will be very helpful, but you could get by with 2 for the time being.

get 2 serial ata hard drives, and use one for your os, and put all your audio stuff on the other one.

dual monitors help the workflow heaps

just in relation to storing your samples in the project files....does cubase offer a function whereby when u save a project it will copy every sample used and store it within the project file????

that would be a very useful tool

i backup all my work on two external disks and one internal. i have quad core 2,4ghz 4gb ram works fine.
