A lot of people don't even recycle paper... and I'm saying the type of recycling where you re-use the paper's other side, not just dump it in the blue bin. Regardless, the lights at my house are always dimmed, makes it easier on the eyes when on the computer.

Ya, ACTUAL recycling, like you described is good.

Throwing stuff in the blue bin is a big waste, apparently they only use a small portion of what they receive at the recycling plant, which isn't a big surprise.

While I do think there is a big problem concerning the environment, I don't think it will be a global solution that everyone adopts that will solve the problem. It will be a series of smaller solutions that WAY more people will use, instead of 1 big giant solution that the sensationalist environmentalists come up with.

All in all though, awareness is good and that's what earth hour is for.

Ok... people think about it for an hour... and they forget right after

Its like when christmas comes... people give... so they dont have to do it for the whole year

Same thing for freakin valentines day etc

One hour of SKYDOO (snowbyke or whavter its called) = 1 year of using a car

Stop that first... after that we'll talk

I even heard on the news i think... that the one hour thingy for the whole montreal .... is exactly like 6 years of only one car usage... hummmmm :s

That means a lot if its true

Not only does the majority get thrown away anyways, but to recycle generally takes more energy than to just manufacture a new from raw materials.

Consequently, considering that greenhouse gas emissions are our primary concern right now (as opposed to resource preservation)... recycling is actually quite counter-productive.

That being said, yes, it's the reduce and reuse parts that are effective and need to be emphasized. Instead, we have self-righteous assholes who think that by recycling half of their case of 24 water-bottles, they're doing everyone a favor

They're not actually trying to save energy by turning off the lights.
For an hour, that's kind of naive.
It's symbolic in this case, they're trying to make people aware of the
problem.
This kind of action has a snowball effect. People see, do it, people
get interested, now we have more people, people follow a bigger mass bla
bla bla.
A simple psychological fuck.

I turned off my Virus TI for the first time since I got it for Earth Hour. My desk looked so boring without all the LEDs blinking =(
