The LEDs? Those are the lights, right? Don't they go up when ANY sound comes in; not just the kick?

The LEDs are peak meters.... so even if they lights up at any sound coming from the CDJ, the biggest peak will be the kick.

mmm...weren't you asking a question

anywho, auto-cue helps a lot too when the track start with a few second of silence. In a lot of situation it manages to set your cue mark at the very beginning of the first beat. But even then, you could always edit out that "pre-roll"

but what happens in the small probability case when the auto cue is not properly positioned?

Im guessing he can slowly fast forward the track and watch for a big peak in the LEDS and that should indicate a kick drum.
