Well, I'm not aiming to get signed to discover. I'm just a big fan of the plucky trance style and a huge supporter of Recoverworld tracks. I leave for college to major in Audio Production in September and they teach you how to use Logic...right now I'm using FL Studio, but i'm aiming to switch.

I'm going to be using a lot more than just Vanguard and Nexus though.
But keep in mind that O'Callaghan uses Cubase and an avid user of Nexus...so is Bronzwaer, in fact Bronzwaer uses very little VSTs...he only uses Albino and Vanguard.
So with those two, I should get the sounds i'm looking for.
And what tracks do you have signed to Discover?

You know there are ways to use a common synth and NOT sound like everyone else...just because one synth is being used doesn't mean I'm going to "sound" like everyone else.

A really good example of someone who's manipulated the pluck, yet still kept his tunes unique is Giuseppe Ottaviani. Now I'm not saying all of his songs AREN'T generic, in fact if I have to hear Far Away again I may stab myself. But I think in terms of synths and basslines "Until Monday" is pretty original.
So I'm trying to bring something to the table that no one else has...

Thats a good initiative.

There is loads u can do with it, but.. make sure u have enough RAM, this thing sucks RAM like vampires does blood.

This thread has been done to death (x1000) before, but there is a strong argument to say that if you use the same synth as other producer you will, to some degree and whether you want ot admit it or not, sound like ever other producer. That is because synths have (and are in many cases designed to) a particular sound/sonic quality (like a niche/identity). It's really not difficult to identify the synths you know in some tracks even when they are custom patches.

The ultimate answer to the thread title is try loads of synths and figure which ones you like/fit your style.

"Go figure...your from Ireland..." whats at supposed to mean? incase you didnt no most of the discover artists are from ireland. let me remind you john o'callaghan, greg downey, bryan kearney, neal scarborough, myself. silly yank!

and on that note guiseppe uses hardware. like myself and alot of discover artists. what about trying to find your own sound and not sound like everyone else. i found my own sound if i sounded like everyone else i wouldnt have got signed.
