Haha, oh damn, I just realized you're from Miami too. I went to the Dolphin Mall Sam Ash. But watch out bc they might have caught it looking over the daily receipts!

just bought the pair new for $270+tax. i really wonder if these places that guarantee to match the lowest price, if you could just make a fake html page and print it out with pretty low prices (nothing too crazy).
the manager came and looked at my print out and said it was fine.

also, what are some of the better monitors within that price range that you speak of? i'm a monitor noob and only keep hearing about the krk's and the truth's.
I've been listening around some shops for a new set. The newer (black shiny front) Behringers are from another (newer) build. They seem to be quite bass heavy. They expose less detail in that frequency range compared to the older models (with the grey front).
KRK's are a bit newer than the Behringers. They're around for about 3 years now? When the Behringers have around six. Anyway, I would prefer the KRK rp-8 over the behringers having heard them in my local music shop. They show a bit more detail over the entire frequency range. The rp-5 and rp-6 aren't very interesting in my opinion. They lack bass definition and did not impress me at all.
In the price range of max 250Euro per speaker, which imo is the low budget range there's one more (serious) competitor. However do mind most speakers are priced way lower in the US . The KRK Rokit RP-8 goes for 250Euro a piece here while it goed for 199$ a piece in the US (and possible cheaper as well ).
Back to the other model, the Yamaha HS80M. Which is better than the Behringers and KRK budget models in my opinion. A lot of details in the mid range especially. And they sound a little bit less fresh (a tad less high freq) which makes it easier on the ears to listen to for longer timespans.
In the end they're all pretty good given their price. Behringers would now be the cheapest by far. The Yamaha and KRK would probably cost you 199$ per speaker, new that is.
If you can find any of the aforementioned speakers at a good price you will be very happy. Behringers go insanely loud and don't blow up very easy because of the built in limiter. KRK's go very very loud as well . The Yamaha doesn't go as loud but offers a bit more detail to the sounds it reproduces. Hope it helps. Just make sure you are happy about your purchase
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

right now i'm happy with this purchase, it's almost two for the price of one when compared to the krk's/yamaha's so i'll stick with it for now since i'm on a budget. the truths seem like they sell well on ebay so if i ever feel like upgrading i could always take that route.

then what's with all the countless arguments that the KRK's are more for studio use, and people arguing as to why dj's would use them as it's a more flat sound?

not all of them are identical...however all monitors are made to have a flat response.
The whole point of a monitor is to play the same as what the "artist intended". When a track is produced, it is done using monitors. So if you want to hear a track as the artist intended it to be, you have to use monitors yourself.
Flat response may not be everyone's preference, as people like more bass or more highs or whatever else.
BTW the truths do have some switches on the back so you can boost bass/treble/highs anywhere from 2-6dB.
